March 24, 2011 – UC Teacher’s College tour, the first UC classroom hall to be renovated to LEED standards. We’ll meet at the Starbucks in the Steger Student Life Building. Parking is available in the Woodside garage and then walk south. The Steger Center is west of the Recreation Center ans north of the stadium. This compliments the other 5 LEED projects on campus. From UC’s information: UC’s Teachers College/Dyer Hall renovation project was a welcome change for faculty and students from the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services, who returned to the 1930s-era building in September 2008. The west wing of the facility underwent an $18.5 million facelift. Refinished walls, new windows and a flood of natural light have created a bright and inviting interior decked out with stained pillars and dark wood trim. The project included renovations to dozens of offices, four new learning rooms, a videoconferencing room and a new CECH Library that spans both the third and fourth floors. In renovating the library, workers tore out a dropped ceiling that, until now, obscured the space’s original art deco ceiling and Juliette balcony.
