Sustainable Urban Landscapes Symposium – Cincinnati Zoo

Good Morning to All,

We’ve added the last speaker to our lineup for our Sustainable Urban Landscapes Symposium.

Tracey Williams has done some truly innovative and exciting work with green walls and roofs in the Louisville area. We are very pleased to add her to an already stellar lineup.

Peter Huttinger of the Civic Garden Center of Cincinnati, truly the area’s greatest expert on community gardens, will give us the lowdown on how to create community gardens that are attractive and productive and something an entire community can be proud of.

Jim Chatfield of Ohio State University Extension will start the day with his program “Why Trees Matter in the Urban Landscape.” Jim is highly respected for his years of experience, knowledge, passion, and for his great talks. Greg Paige from the industry leading Bartlett Research Arboretum in North Carolina will teach us how to plant and care for trees in the urban environment so they will “Live, Thrive, and Survive!”

Mark Hoeningman has been doing great research in collaboration with Ohio State and the International Society of Arboriculture in regards to restoring abused urban soils. He will bring us up to date on that research and the tools and techniques that convert that urban wasteland into rich, productive land. Dan Herms of Ohio State Extension will discuss the sustainable use of pesticides in the urban environment.

Steve Foltz, Director of Horticulture at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, along with popular radio gardening host Ron Wilson will weigh in on sustainable options for dealing with common urban landscape issues. Steve will also deliver a talk called “Urban Landscapes As Their Own Ecosystem.”

This will be a very informative day for land care professionals, arborists, landscape architects, designers, planners, municipalities, engineers, landscapers, and gardeners. CEUs approved or pending from ISA, ASLA, APLD, PLANET, ONLA, and PGMS. We hope you will join us! Registration is $49.00 and includes Zoo admission, parking, lunch, and snacks.
