Green Office Makeover – LEED Commercial Interior Design & Construction Workshop

April 14, 2011 Green Office Makeover Update – Please join us for a report on the office’s LEED Platinum progress, the USGBC’s Technical Advise about our project and the steps we took to correct our documentation. Program is after the OTR Chamber Leads Lunch (above).

Jan. 17, 2011,  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. – LEED 2009 v3 for Commercial Interiors Documentation Workshop – We will review every document, live at LEED On-line for Green Cincinnati’s offices. The new version is much harder and more inclusive. It requires the latest version of the ASHRAE standards, 50% Energy Star appliances, and 20% minimum water reduction from EPAct baseline standards. The USGBC has raised the bar and stopped many of the objections to the previous versions. Like the new LEED AP requirements, if you are going to the latest version – the requirements will be tough to meet. Attendance is limited to 12. Former students may attend at no charge. You may also attend virtually via GoToMeeting. Contact Green Cincinnati for more information. The following items highlight just a few of the lessons you will learn:

• Use Google maps to document bus lines and community services.
• Documenting concrete reflectiveness and five year tree shading
• Eco Rain barrel and plant water use calculations
• Using add on Perfect Flush dual flush and gray water basins to reach 30% water reduction
• Energy Star appliance sourcing and documentation from DOE
• Pellet stove installation from Green Source
• Material resource balancing with Excel
• Salvage material, carpet & blinds, sourcing from Building Value
• Using standard Cooper occupancy/daylight switches sensors with 100% LED lighting

Testimonials:

I would have liked to use the sink on the back of the toilet, but then I might have made a mess too. It was a good to have a mix of people from different backgrounds.  I wish the people would have shared a little more, but I know you don’t have much control over that.  I have noticed I learn the most while surrounded by engaged and engaging individuals.  I do really like the way you include everyone in on your office project.  I believe that will be a tremendous help toward learning about the inner workings of LEED online.
Tim Hill, John Grier Architects

The workshop was super helpful, Chuck. I intend to follow up with you on the SS credit, and I would be interested in attending another, as I am not working on any other LEED stuff right now. Improvement?? Maybe have something in the afternoon to break up the concentration, tell a joke, or take everybody outside, as it is alot to absorb and takes focus. I love your pellet stove, you should get points for it being so cute.
Michelle Anderson.
