Cincinnati Green Building Signage Project presents:
The first City of Cincinnati LEED Gold Project
5800 Hamilton Avenue, College Hill, OH 45224
In 2007 the City of Cincinnati made a commitment to construct all new city buildings to LEED Certification.
The Green Learning Station of the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati will showcase a proposed Green Building signage project in a display at Park+Vine Nov. 30 – Jan. 24, 2013. An opening reception will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 – 6 to 8 p.m. at Park+Vine, 1202 Main Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
The Fire Station No. 51 is one of the buildings that are part of the Cincinnati Green Building Signage Project. The following are some of the sustainable features of the building.
Site – The concrete parking lot has two benefits: It’s cooler than asphalt and in designated spots where cars park, the pervious concrete allows water to divert from the storm sewer into the ground.
Water Savings – Stormwater is collected in a 5,000-gallon tank to fill fire trucks. Part of the roof is planted with Sedum, a drought-tolerant succulent plant that has water-storing leaves.
Energy Efficiency – Fire Station No. 51 uses air conditioning refrigerants that contribute less to ozone depletion and global warming potential. Ozone in the atmosphere blocks harmful ultraviolet light rays from the sun.
Materials – Recycling is an important part of every Green building. Recycling bins are provided at work stations and in common areas for plastic, paper, cardboard, glass and metal.
Air Quality – 30 percent more fresh air is supplied to the fire station. An energy recovery wheel in the HVAC duct system trades heating or cooling from the exhaust air to the incoming fresh air.
