Here is a Green Building – Clark Montessori

Cincinnati Green Building Signage Project presents Clark Montessori.
3030 Erie Avenue, Hyde Park, OH 45208

CPS has the most LEED Certified schools in the U.S.

Cincinnati Public Schools worked closely with the neighborhood to create a school that blended into the site and preserved open space.

The Green Learning Station of the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati will showcase a proposed Green Building signage project in a display at Park+Vine Nov. 30 – Jan. 24, 2013. An opening reception will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 – 6 to 8 p.m. at Park+Vine, 1202 Main Street,  Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Clark Montessori is one of the buildings that are part of the Cincinnati Green Building Signage Project. The following are some of the sustainable features of the building.

Site – Clark Montessori features a two-story high retaining wall made from the former school’s demolition materials.

Water Savings – Clark has an extensive accessible green roof over the auditorium that is partially planted with Buffalo Grass, which is an exceptionally cold- and drought-tolerant plant.

Energy Efficiency – The HVAC designers made a systems operation manual and trained the building managers on the most efficient way to heat and cool the school.

Materials – 50 percent of the new wood meets the Forest Stewardship Council Certification requirements for environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests.

Air Quality – Preventing mold is an important feature of a Green school. Indoor air quality is improved by limiting conditions (moisture, warmth and food) that allow mold to grow.
