Here is a Green Building – Cincinnati Zoo Entry Village

Cincinnati Green Building Signage Project presents:

The “Greenest Zoo” in the U.S.
3400 Vine Street, Clifton, OH 45220

The 1.6 Mega Watt solar panels are on track to generate at least 20 percent of the Zoo’s electricity.

The Green Learning Station of the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati will showcase a proposed Green Building signage project in a display at Park+Vine Nov. 30 – Jan. 24, 2013. An opening reception will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 – 6 to 8 p.m. at Park+Vine, 1202 Main Street,  Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Cincinnati Zoo Entry Village is one of the buildings that are part of the Cincinnati Green Building Signage Project. The following are some of the sustainable features of the building.

Site – The Zoo’s Green buildings take advantage of the city’s ample public bus transportation network and encourages bicycle use by providing bike racks.

Water Savings – The Zoo is committed to reducing stormwater runoff to help prevent combined sewer overflows into the Ohio River. Pervious pavers are used and water is stored in the three foot gravel bed below.

Energy Efficiency – The Go Green Garden features a 10 kW solar electric panel array and a 1.2 kW wind turbine generator.

Materials – The Zoo uses durable steel structural systems, concrete siding and standing seam metal roofs. All of which have high recycled content and come from sources within 500 miles.

Air Quality – To improve indoor air quality, the Zoo selected indoor carpet, paint, adhesives and composite wood panels that don’t contain harmful chemicals.
