From ARC to GRESB: Harnessing ESG Data – Greenbuild 2020

From ARC to GRESB: The power of performance measurement at both asset and portfolio levels within the USGBC programs. Many organizations struggle with managing sustainability data and using the data to identify meaningful insights and drive performance. We will be exploring how to utilize the ARC and GRESB programs, each with varying levels of granularity and differing types of data required, to maximize a data-driven approach to sustainability management.

This panel will help organizations find synergies in the way they manage data, identify opportunities to go beyond “checking the box”, and use the data to drive and communicate performance at the asset and portfolio level. We will review types of data measured by each program, what insights can be found within that data, how to engage stakeholders throughout the data collection process, and how to leverage synergies between the ARC and GRESB platforms.

CodeGreen has worked with thousands of individual properties to collect data for various USGBC programs and has helped portfolio teams maximize the value of this data. Market leaders such as JBG SMITH and Boston Properties have proven track records of high-performance in  USGBC’s ARC and GRESB Programs and will discuss the value of working with both programs and share their experiences, best-practices, and challenges.

Our target audience will be internal sustainability teams who oversee real estate portfolios, property or asset managers that are working with either or both of these programs, and anyone looking to maximize the value of proper sustainability data collection and management.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Understand the types of data that are measured in ARC and GRESB and synergies between the programs

Learn how to engage property teams in data collection process for ARC and GRESB

Use data within the ARC platform to drive performance at the asset level, going beyond a “check-the-box” exercise

Use ARC and GRESB to find meaningful insights and trends across a real estate portfolio

Our conversation with Chris in the chat:

Chris Pyke: Here’s information on LEED GHG performance as measured by Arc https://www.arcskoru.com/update-leed-project-performance-energy-emissions-commuting-and-occupant-experience-november-2020

Chris Pyke: The minimum energy performance for 4.1 is a Performance Score of 40. This is a composite of source energy and GHG emissions on a 50/50 basis.

Hi from Cincinnati. I’m here looking for the minimum energy or carbon footprint for LEED O+M v4.1 through ARC reporting.

Chris Pyle: Chuck, please say more.

592.12 MTCO2e Cumulative GHG emissions for a year. Our ARC Energy score is only 5. So we have a long way to go. Thanks for the information.

Chris Pyke: One thought: Green power can help!

That’s a good point. All of our building electric is from wind turbines in Texas. We need to get our chilled water provider to use Green power.

Chris Pyke: That should help a lot, particularly if it’s not reflected in your eGRID default emissions factors. There is an Arc option for that.

Hi Chris, such a pleasure to meet you. I’ll connect in LinkedIn. We specify the Green energy from wind turbines in our Energy Star Portfolio reporting. I assume that factors into our ARC data. Our plug load electric is only 10% of the total.

Chris Pyke: Yes, this factors into Arc — we have meter types for that, along with custom emissions options.

Hi Chris, Thank you so much for answering my questions in the Greenbuild session this morning. my goal is to work on this project throughout the conference. If I can’t get an answer, I might reach out to you. Thanks for all you do. ARC is an amazing tool to achieve LEED certification.

Chris Pyke: Chuck, thanks for that. Please let me know if we can help, cpyke@arcskoru.com

  • Chuck saw your question during the Arc Greenbuild session this morning. We do a ton of work with Arc and would be happy to assist with getting that building score of 5 up where you want it! Hope to connect.
