Mission: To provide education on sustainability in everyday tasks by promoting individual and household environmentally sound practices. Education through the Green Living committee will target LEED, Energy Star, home gardening, existing building reuse, historical preservation, renewable home energy and sustainable remodeling.
Vision: The inhabitants of our region will maintain the smallest environmental footprints and become role models for sustainable living.

For 2015 the Green Living Member Circle is producing nine Green Home Tours. The tours are listed below or check the events calendar. Contact Chair Chuck Lohre to join, receive newsletter or register for any of the tours, [email protected], 513-260-9025. Chapter members get preference for the tours and can bring a friend. Attendance is limited to 20, the address will be provided after you register. There is no charge for the tours just your help in promoting them is asked.

November 14, 2015, 10 am till Noon, Bradley Cooper’s Tiny Home Project “Start Small” in OTR. Illustrated is a similar concept for a tiny home for the Trainer’s in San Francisco. Learn more.
The Green Living Member Circle of the regional U.S. Green Building Council plans a new series of “This is a Green Home” tours in 2016.

February 20, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Yankie Residence, Maderia, Ohio – An existing home in Madiera that demonstrates that you can renovate a home a still strive for LEED Platinum.
March 19, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Passive Home in Lebanon, OH – A Passive Home uses less energy, water and natural resources, creates less waste and is healthier for the people living inside compared to a standard home. Learn More.
April 16, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Holzhauser Residence, OTR Downtown Cincinnati – Renovation to hopefully LEED Platinum. Project includes rental as well as the owner’s residence.
May 21, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Bacher Residence, Norwood, Ohio – 990 sqf home with an organic garden. 1940s construction of poured concrete offers excellent air sealing. Learn more at Stephanie Backer’s Facebook page “Gradually Going Green.”
September 17, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Whitney Residence, Anderson, Ohio – A “Quonset Roof” style barn conversion with geo-thermal and radiant heat. Learn more from Nancy Kibbee’s article in “Natural Interiors.”
October TBD, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Rauh Residence, Clifton, Cincinnati, Ohio – John Becker designed residence, considered the first international style home in the region. Built 1938. Completely restored in 2013 by the Cincinnati Preservation Association to it’s original plan and upgraded with the latest energy efficiency methods including geo-thermal, added insulation and high performance glazing. November 19, 2016; 10 am till Noon: Walters Residence, East Walnut Hills – Samuel Hannaford Home restoration, hopefully to LEED Platinum Certification.

July 25, 2015, 10 am till Noon, Columbia Tusculum Residence/Yoga Studio – This home addition and remodel was a labor of love for the owners, a yoga instructor and US EPA employee. From design through construction, every detail was chosen to reinforce their mantra of living lightly. The home’s heating and cooling is supplemented with a solar thermal powered radiant floor heating system. Solar PV was installed to offset their energy bills. A 2,500 gallon tank captures and stores the rain water from the entire roof. The water will be recycled for irrigation and eventually toilet flushing. Learn more. April 25, 2015, 9 to 11 am, Imago for the Earth Community in Price Hill. Imago is a grassroots, environmental education organization. For over 30 years Imago has been modeling and educating about living in concert with the natural world, both animate and inanimate, human and non. Learn more.
March 21, 2015, 10 am till Noon, Mt. Carmel, OH, the Nutter Residence is the most energy efficient home we have visited. Their first year energy cost was about $200! The home also has the only rainwater toilet flush system we have seen. Learn more.
March 7, 2015, 10 am till Noon, this highly energy efficient home achieved LEED Gold. Owner Architect Edward Wright will lead the tour. Learn more.
January 17, 2015, 10 am till Noon – Paul Gaitan’s Over-The-Rhine home has applied for the City of Cincinnati U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design tax abatement. They should save about $40,000 over the five year period of the tax savings, easily paying for the approximate $6,000 in higher performance materials, systems and LEED fees. Learn more.
November 8, 2014, 10 am till Noon – The Kinsman Residence is a LEED Silver home that’s boiler free. Heating and natural cooling from passive and thermal solar sources. The home is located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Northside. Learn more.
