The first step with any renewable energy project is to make your home as efficient as possible.

Cincinnati State Renewable Energy Class: The class includes visits to nine LEED projects with renewable energy installations.

Renewable Energy Plans: Once the concrete block wall and thermal blankets added to the single pane windows, the first planned system will be a solar hot water system. Following stages will be improved system efficiency with geo-thermal heating and AC. The last stage will be a solar PV system.

What: Smart Foam Insulation Installation Demonstration – in real time on an existing home.

Why: To improve the insulation value of the single block north, east and west walls of the home. The insulation will take the R 1 single width block wall to R 11.

When: Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 starting at 9 a.m. The project should take until 3 p.m. You’re welcome to stop by anytime. There is no charge for the event but please RSVP by emailing Chuck Lohre or by calling 513-260-9025, if you would like to stop by.

Where: The Boulter House, 1 Rawson Woods Circle, Cincinnati, OH 45220. The house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1956.

Who: Perry Leitner with Blue Chip Energy Services will be performing the Smart Foam Insulation installation. Blue Chip is an Ohio Certified Solar installer and will soon be qualified to perform energy audits for the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance.

How: The Smart Foam Insulation process injects a non-expanding foam into the lower wall cavity and fills the voids between the concrete block. Watch the video. Blue Chip Energy Services will use a thermal imaging camera to trace the 100 degree foam’s progress filling the cavity. Perfect for enclosed cavity applications such as stud walls and cathedral ceilings and the retrofit of concrete block walls.
